Detect traffic

LaneWarden Pulse

Queue-detection radar trailer
Corridor backbone

Overview

A light solar mast trailer with a side-fire radar that measures speed, volume and occupancy in both directions. Pulses fill the gaps between the other nodes so a queue tail is always near a detection point.

Queue warning is only as good as the spacing of its detection points. Pulse is the low-power, low-cost node that closes the gaps between signs and cameras.

Every 60 seconds it reports per-lane speed, volume and occupancy, which Command turns into free-flow, moderate or heavy states for the queue-warning rules.

What it does

Pulse at work

1

Speed, volume, occupancy

Per-lane measurements for both directions in 60-second bins.

2

Queue states

Readings feed the free-flow (over 45 mph), moderate (20 to 45 mph) and heavy (under 20 mph) states that drive the sign messages.

3

Two carriers

Two modems on two cellular carriers, so one network outage does not open a gap in detection.

See what happens when a Pulse stops reporting, with the same rules the system runs.

Runs LaneWarden Edge

  • GPS position reported within 10 ft
  • Health, power and status every 60 seconds
  • Local rules and fail-safe behavior that work without the network
  • 72 hours of store-and-forward if the link drops
  • Signed over-the-air software updates
